There's more to me than journalism

Born in the Bay Area of California, raised for the most part in small-town Oregon. I have been going to the theater at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival since I was too young to stay awake for a three-hour play. I am working my way through Shakespeare's canon and have somewhere in the neighborhood of eight plays to go. Other favorites in the theater world include Nilo Cruz, Arthur Miller, August Wilson and Tom Stoppard.

Was a die-hard soccer player until my third year in college. Captained my high school team, and later had stints on the reserve team of the (now defunct) Cascade Surge of the Premier Development League, and the Macalester College NCAA Division III team. I eventually found that working long nights is not conducive to playing a lot of soccer by day, but I doubt that I'll ever really stop playing.
